Inalum Operating as part of the BUMN Holding Mining Industry MIND ID is committed to the development of the national aluminum industry cluster.

Through its subsidiary PT Indonesia Aluminum Alloy (IAA), Inalum will gradually produce secondary aluminum billets with a printing capacity of 50 thousand tons per year. In the future, various extruded aluminum products as derivative products will also be produced.

The initiative was marked by the groundbreaking revamping or Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) of the secondary billet aluminum smelting plant in Kuala Tanjung, Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra, on Wednesday 8 December 2021.

The revamp project is carried out in collaboration with the IAA with the PT Rekayasa Industri Contractor Consortium and KSO Asahan Citra Win.

MIND ID Director of Operations and Portfolio Danny Praditya said this initiative to increase the added value of the aluminum processing process plays a strategic role in developing aluminum industrial clusters in Indonesia.

“The increase in capacity by 50 thousand tons per year supports the fulfillment of aluminum needs and the development of the national aluminum industry cluster,” he explained in a written statement, Tuesday (12/14/2021).

The company has set a target for the completion of the revamp project for the aluminum billet production facility to be fully operational in the fourth quarter of 2022 with both domestic and global target markets.

In the future, IAA will not only develop downstream but also aluminum industrialization.

In its production, IAA will use scrap raw material which is a recycling process from used aluminum goods.

“The energy consumption required in the aluminum recycling process is only 5 percent of the primary aluminum (electrolytic process). This makes aluminum an environmentally friendly material, because recycling is the same as saving up to 95 percent of energy,” explained Danny.
